MutualOne Foundation grants $5K to Christa McAuliffe Charter School Foundation

Steven M. Sousa, executive vice president and chief operating officer of MutualOne Bank and a MutualOne Charitable Foundation trustee, has announced a $5,000 Foundation grant to the Christa McAuliffe Charter School Foundation.

According to Sousa, the award was made to support the first year of a multi-year capacity building initiative which will include faculty workshops and the development of a strategic plan for narrowing the gap between the highest and lowest performing students.

“The McAuliffe Charter School serves a diverse student body,” said Sousa. “We are pleased to support efforts to help every student meet the school’s high standards for academic and personal success.”

Partnering to Support & Protect the Framingham PD

This summer, the Framingham Police Department was able to purchase 25 sets of ballistic vests, helmets and related equipment for officers, thanks to a $15,000 donation from neighbor and MutualOne Bank customer, Weston Shooters, a private shooting club, and premier provider of firearms safety instruction in the MetroWest communities of Massachusetts.

According to Victor Grillo, owner of Weston Shooters Club, the need for funding was discovered thanks to the Department’s close relationship with MutualOne Bank, and our president, Mark Haranas.

“Our members are strong supporters of responsible gun ownership and firearms safety. We are pleased to be able to help our friends in law enforcement stay safe as they work to protect our community every day from those who don’t share the same gun values we do,” said Grillo.

The Bank has long supported the Framingham Police Department through donations from the Charitable Foundation, including a recent $5,000 contribution to help defray the costs of the Department’s wildly successful Gun Buy Back Program. By working with partners such as Weston Shooters, we are able to help bring more resources and support for fundamental community services.

Kenneth Ferguson, Chief of the Framingham Police Department, said “We are so grateful when members of the community step up to the plate to fund improvements that keep our officers and community safe. MutualOne Foundation grants $10K for Musterfield Place summer camp

The MutualOne Charitable Foundation has awarded $10,000 to support the summer camp program at Musterfield Place, a residential development managed by the Framingham Housing Authority.

The grant will cover salary costs for four local high school and college students to staff the day camp program, according to Mark R. Haranas, president and CEO of MutualOne Bank and a MutualOne Charitable Foundation trustee.

More than 90 children are eligible for the summer camp activities, which include outdoor and beach activities as well as computer and reading time.

“We see this as an outstanding opportunity for the youth of Musterfield Place to enjoy a quality summer program right in their own backyard,” said Haranas. “We are happy to help make that possible.”

Congratulations to Senior Personal Banker Donna Gogliormella and Senior Operations Specialist Marie Harrington on their selection as this month’s Employees of the Month.

Donna was selected for her contributions in the Client Services department, while also working in the branches on Saturdays. Marie was selected for her ability to process increasing activity and accept additional responsibilities.

MutualOne Foundation awards $5K to Read to a Child program

Read to a Child, a lunchtime reading program at the Woodrow Wilson and Brophy elementary schools in Framingham, has received a $5,000 grant from the MutualOne Charitable Foundation. The program pairs high-risk students in grades one through four with adult volunteer mentors from a number of local companies and community organizations for weekly read-aloud sessions at the two schools.

According to Steven M. Sousa, executive vice president and chief operating officer of MutualOne Bank and a MutualOne Charitable Foundation trustee, the Foundation
grant will support program materials, books, and volunteer training and recruitment, to help ensure sustainability of the program.

“We’ve watched the growing success of this program over the past five years of our support, and we’re pleased to continue our partnership with Read to a Child again this year,” said Sousa.
